Baggage Allowance

Air Deccan, India's premier low cost airline lays a lot of emphasis on proper baggage handling and it is our constant endeavor to make sure that we have the least number of short shipped bags. Like most other airlines, our baggage handling is outsourced to outside agencies and at times bags do get misplaced. For your convenience we have listed below a few pointers on how to avoid misplacement of baggage along with our baggage policies.

Deccan Airways Allows maximum check-in Baggage for per Adult / Child is 15 Kgs. No baggage is allowed for infants. Passengers are permitted to carry only one piece of Cabin Baggage weighing a maximum of 10 Kgs per passenger and not exceeding 20x14x9 inches in dimension. Due to airport security regulations, no cabin baggage is allowed on flights departing from the Leh, Jammu and Srinagar airports, however checked-in baggage allowance is 25 Kgs per passenger on these flights.

Cabin baggage is accepted in the cabin subject to availability of space in the overhead bin. Restricted stowage space is also under the front seat. In the event of no space being available in the aircraft to stow cabin baggage in the overhead bins or under the front seat, it will be necessary to remove and load the same in the baggage hold as per Government Safety Regulations.

Deccan does not take any responsibility for security removed articles like dry cell batteries, knives, scissors, sharp instruments, tools, firearms, ammunitions, and toy replicas etc, which are not permitted to be carried in the cabin baggage. These articles will not be forwarded or kept in safe keeping by the airline.

Articles that may be carried in addition to the free baggage allowance in Deccan:

  • Such articles are permitted to be carried subject to security regulations.
  • A small camera and/or a pair of binoculars.
  • Infant's food for consumption in flight and infant's carrying basket
  • An overcoat wrap or blanket.
  • An umbrella or walking stick.
  • A lady's handbag, lady's pocketbook or lady's purse.
  • A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
  • A fully collapsible invalid's wheelchair and/or a pair of crutches and/or braces or other prosthetic device for the passenger's use provided that the passenger is dependent upon them.
  • Medicines and toiletries in limited quantities, which are necessary or appropriate for the passenger during the journey, such as hairsprays, perfumes and medicines containing alcohol, may be carried.
  • Dry ice in quantities not exceeding 2 kilograms (5 pounds) per passenger, used to pack perishables, as carry-on baggage only.
  • Alcoholic Beverages: With approval of the carrier(s), small oxygen cylinders for medicines use and small carbon dioxide gas cylinders worn by passenger for the operation of mechanical limbs.

How much baggage can I check-in on my Deccan flight?
Each passenger (excluding infants) is allowed a maximum of 15 kgs checked in baggage. Excess baggage beyond 15 kgs is charged at Rs 70/- per kg. Deccan reserves the right to offload baggage incase of overload on any flight.

Can I carry a Laptop as Cabin Baggage?
Laptops are permitted to be carried on board the aircraft, in addition to one piece of cabin baggage.

What happens if at the check in counter, I discover that I have excess baggage?
Any baggage brought to the check-in counter on the date of departure that exceeds the available weight is considered excess baggage and is chargeable at the rate published.

Does Deccan have any special baggage allowance for international passengers?
Deccan does not have a special baggage allowance for international passengers. The baggage allowance is the same for all passengers.

If my baggage is not traceable, am I entitled to some compensation?
In the event of loss to baggage the airline's liability is limited to Rs 450/- per kilo for checked-in baggage, provided, loss of baggage has been reported to the airline, prior to leaving the airport on the day of the loss and if not traced within 7 days.

Can I purchase an extra seat for comfort or to carry valuable / fragile items?
An extra seat can be purchased incase passengers desire. Both tickets would need to be produced at the check in counter and boarding passes will be issued accordingly.
